Full-Stack Web Developer

Love to solve problems with code?

Do you want to kick-start your career within a small team of experienced and committed digital professionals?

What is the opportunity?

Daughter help entrepreneurial businesses build innovating digital solutions by journeying with them through a discovery, design, build and testing process. We work with a range of clients from Save The Children and the Church of England to Select Car Leasing and Zurich Insurance. We don’t believe in churning out work, we take time to understand, question and validate the products we build; we want to put smiles on the faces of our clients and their customers.

We are looking for a full-stack web developer looking to kick-start their career within a small team of experienced and committed digital professionals. You’ll get to focus on building incredible digital solutions whilst gaining exposure to the full life-cycle of product development and client engagement. We are committed to providing a culture that you will love whilst offering the potential for you to grow in your career.

Who are we looking for?

You are someone who loves to code but more than that, you love finding solutions to challenging problems. You aren’t bound to a single technology but you’ll likely have a fair bit of love for everything client-side and server-side. We’ll help give you experience in semantic HTML, atomic SASS, pure JavaScript, Ruby on Rails, PHP, Heroku, Gulp and Git to name a few. We’re also open to new technologies as they best meet the needs of our clients, so we’d hope that you come with opinions and thoughts and a desire to play and see what works and what doesn’t.

We think you probably have a degree, or are just finishing one, in a relevant course. But we recognise that some of the best developers out there are self-taught, so we’re open to surprises.

You love working with people as much as you do with computers. You want to be involved in discussions and even debate over what the best solution to a problem might be. You’re energised by the opportunity to show people what you’ve built. Although you might not call yourself a project manager, you’re systematic enough in your approach to ensure that you’re well organised in all that you do. Messy, half-baked projects aren’t for you.

What is the package?

Well, above getting to work with us, we’re offering…

  • A salary between £20k and £25k, depending on experience
  • Annual bonus based on a profit share scheme
  • Optional 3% contributory government approved pension
  • 28 days holiday, with the opportunity to purchase up to 10 more
  • A generous learning budget for books and events
  • After three years, you get to keep your MacBook
  • Flexible working hours based on a 35 hour week

How to apply?

Firstly, we’d love to hear from you. If you want a coffee and to meet us before applying, just shout. You can email us at any time at studio@daughter.is.

Our offices are in the stunning SPACES offices on Greyfriars Road in Reading, just around the corner from the station. If you consider yourself to be from an under-represented group in tech, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

You don’t need a polished CV but a one-pager would be a helpful starting place. You should have a few projects, even if they are just personal, that you can talk us through. You might be asked to complete a short (fun) technical test. We’ll then look to commit to interviews through July and August with the intention of having the right candidate start at the beginning of September 2019.

The closing date for applications is 31 July 2019.
